What is Adaptive Tennis
Activities can be modified based on the needs and abilities of participants, allowing more people to experience the physical, social and recreational benefits of tennis.
USTA Adaptive Tennis also encompasses programming serving individuals who may benefit from modified or supportive tennis experiences related to emotional, social, mental health, environmental or post-traumatic stress needs.
More Opportunities for Adaptive Tennis are coming to Montana
We’re Building on a Great Start
Adaptive Tennis in Montana is still growing – but we’re not starting from zero.
Love Serving Autism is already introducing players to racquet sports in Montana, and USTA Montana is working to build on that foundation.
Our next chapter is about expanding what is possible.
We want to introduce more types of Adaptive Tennis, reach more Montana communities, develop new events and create pathways for players who want to continue in the sport.
Some opportunities will start as introductory events. Others may develop into ongoing programs or competitive experiences.
Every new opportunity means another person gets a chance to discover tennis.

Adaptive Tennis Event in Bozeman
Coming Soon to Bozeman
USTA Montana is working toward bringing an introductory Adaptive Tennis event to Bozeman.
Event date, time, participant information and registration details will be announced soon.
Explore Adaptive Options
Adaptive Tennis isn’t one program or one way to play. There are several forms of the game designed to create meaningful tennis experiences for different athletes.
As USTA Montana develops adaptive events, these are some of the opportunities we hope to bring to communities across our state.

Wheelchair Tennis
Wheelchair Tennis creates recreational and competitive opportunities for athletes with mobility disabilities.
As USTA Montana grows Adaptive Tennis, wheelchair tennis is one of the areas we hope to develop and expand within the state.
Our goal is to create opportunities for new players to experience the sport while building connections to additional instruction and competitive pathways as participation grows.

IDD Tennis
Building skills, confidence and connections through tennis.
Adaptive Tennis can provide meaningful opportunities for athletes with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD), including individuals with autism, Down syndrome, cognitive disabilities and other developmental differences.
Love Serving Autism uses specialized racquet-sport instruction to help individuals with autism and other developmental abilities build confidence, communication, social connections and life skills.

Para Standing Tennis
Compete standing. Play your way.
Para Standing Tennis creates an opportunity for athletes with physical disabilities who play standing rather than using a wheelchair.
As we expand Adaptive Tennis in Montana, we’re interested in creating opportunities for athletes with limb differences, neurological or mobility-related disabilities, and other physical conditions to experience tennis in a format that works for them.
There’s More Than One Way to Experience Tennis
From there, players can progress into skill development, rallies, social play, singles, doubles and competition.
USTA even offers a national competitive pathway. Its Adaptive Tennis Championships include Unified Doubles, where an athlete with an intellectual or developmental disability competes alongside a partner without IDD.

TRY TENNIS → LEARN → PLAY → CONNECT → COMPETE
